@nofreedomofspeech You are quite correct. My contribution was the first PORTABLE handheld Cell Phone.
Martin Cooper
An Afro-centrist told me that Henry Sampson invented the cell phone. LOL.
Sampson and co-inventor George Miley received a patent on a “gamma electric cell” that converted a gamma ray input into an electrical output. (Among the first to do that was Bernhard Gross, US patent #3122640, 1964)
What, you ask, does gamma radiation have to do with cellular communications technology?
The answer: nothing. Some pseudo-historian must have seen the words “electric” and “cell” and thought “cell phone”.
GOD BLESS YOU SIR!!! *Martin Cooper

My thoughts while listening to Martin
1. Too only 3 months to develop 1st version of working cell phone system.
2. Few engineers can explain complex things to common people.
3. He is always (age does not matter) rebellious, humble, analytical, curious..
4. Ability to measuring spectrum efficiency of broadcaster & careers – opportunity for innovation.
5. 30:08 He gave up his iPhone to grand-son (may be he found it is too restricted) using an Andoid – OS interested him and had good results.
In 1956, the first fully automatic mobile phone system, called MTA (Mobile Telephone system A), was developed by Ericsson and commercially released in Sweden. This was the first system that did not require any kind of manual control in base stations, but had the disadvantage of a phone weight of 40 kg (90 lb). MTB, an upgraded version with transistors, weighing 9 kg (20 lb), was introduced in 1965 and used DTMF signaling…. So Dr. Martin Coopers phone from 1973 was NOT the first one.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, and was nice to hear a few old names in there that I have experience with too.
At&t wanted to be a monopoly? Haha, who woulda guessed… uhh
I’ve just tossed a few “visual surround”audio video educators i here – to show that the electromagnetic spectral “range” is infinite & has always been accessable – to those whom can “actually discover – how to “utilise the entire spectral “entity” – whilst still performing the function desired – cellphones just use aninfinitely small “piece” on the galaxy of infinity that exists – just the same as Ur computor relies on ONE tinie weanie aspect to power the electric transformer – to give IT POWER.
See.? Thus – a totally diferent usage – yet an exactly the same one – as that one (that since 1965) I have always used – for mega_multiple (& the possibility exists to get up to 64.77 million) chs worth of “analogue” 3D-TRIPELLO surround sound. I mostly utilise the easiest to get NINE (& a summation “central” tenth) … as my 10ch Visual Audio “demonstration” Video – instantly proves.
@GeneralClassHam losing the lawsuit over his patent that was only accepted 2 hours prior to grays patent (and supposedly bells patent would not work as written) still does not negate the fact that gray invented the phone prior to bell… just as claiming columbus discovered america does not negate the fact that he did not, nor could not discover something that was 1- already inhabited by other people and 2- it was already “discovered” by many explorers prior to his “discovery”
@nypj Alexander Graham Bell gets the credit for the phone because he filed his patent before Gray did. It was verified in a lawsuit Bell placed against Western Union and Gray and Bell won the case.
i think he means that the inventor of the “wire line phone” was elisha gray
Cell phones do not use satellites. And if you are talking about the trunk lines those use fiber across the oceans now instead of satellites.
great man
Hey everybody, independent filmmakers Zack Zortman and Steve Kane here. Wed like you to check out our film, Colonial Commandments here on Youtube. Its the tale of a psycho Revolutionary War colonel wannabe who terrorizes a college student. If you like slapstick comedy and are willing to give our low-budget production a chance, simply type Colonial Commandments in on your Youtube search bar. The film is broken into 5 parts so be sure to watch them all! Thank you!
I doubt “he” invented it all by himself. A cell phone is just one part. Did he invent communication satellites too?
?????????
great man
Thank you Nikola Tesla !!!
The man is brilliant.
I could imagine this guy being my grandfather x) ..at least if I were in a Disney movie!
LINUX, F*CK YEAH!
Er, sorry, I get a little carried away when I catch a whiff of an open-source global takeover.
very brilliant individual!
this guy is a legend!
Seriously? Have you ever heard of little company named HTC? How about all the imitation KIRF’s out on the worldwide market? Yes, the Japanese and Korean, along with a little company outside of Helsinki, you might of heard of them, Nokia, the world leader in cell phones.
